NJ Green Program of Study

Jason was responsible for assisting in writing the grant that helped the State of New Jersey win one of five nationally awarded grants from the Department of Education to develop a new green program of study with three tracks in Energy, Design and Construction for the 9-12 vocational school districts. The program was successfully piloted at seven schools between 2013 and 2015 and is now being expanded to include comprehensive high schools across the State. NJ School Board Association has taken over management of the program with continued input and involvement from Jason. More info is available online at www.njgreenprogramofstudy.org

Along with tenured professor, Erv Bales, Jason co-developed the certificate program in sustainable design and taught two of the four courses between 2008-2015. Arch 664 and 665 cover Sustainable Design of Energy Efficient Buildings and Indoor Environmental Quality. The full semester courses include 45 hours of instructional time that use a combination of lecture, student project, site visit, readings, and student presentations to teach the principles of sustainable design specifically related to energy conservation and renewable energy systems as well as the use of healthy and environmentally responsible product selection. The program is open to 3-5 year architecture and interior design students, graduates, and adult learners.
